[ seeing as Akechi is his roommate - his younger roommate, no less - Lupin feels responsible for him. Not to any extreme extent, as he's clearly old enough to take care of himself, but enough to feel horribly guilty when he stumbled back to the house in a near-catatonic state and stayed that way for days. The meager amount of first aid and medical knowledge he had didn't seem to do anything for the poor boy. So he's resigned himself to doing the next best thing - making sure he's fed and resting as much as possible. And hoping things get better.
It's not clear what happened to him. But Lupin's seen enough people with those dark, dead eyes laying alone on the streets of the slums, and though he never said as much to anyone, he wasn't feeling particularly hopeful about his recovery. Which makes it all the more surprising when he walks in one day with a glass of water and something warm to eat and sees him actually up and about. ]
