[ It has been a few days since Akechi went on that forest expedition, and just as long since he last left the house, so he wasn't exactly expecting to be approached so soon, but it seems fate isn't about to give him time to process everything in his own terms. ]
You're-- [ A brief pause and he squints, trying to associate a name to this face. ] --Midoriya-kun, correct?
That's right. [Izuku slows to a stop in front of him, his expression somehow happier now that Akechi's responded to him.]
You're...you're back to normal! I was really worried when I heard what happened. [He loses some of the brightness in his smile, brows drawing together in concern instead.] How are you feeling?
[ He trails off, and hopefully he can chalk it up to only recently feeling like a human being again - or feeling at all, more like - but the truth is, he doesn't get it. This guy who he had only spoken to briefly before the forest expedition was... worried about him?
Hm. That... seemed to be happening a lot, lately. It truly puzzles him. ]
Ah, I apologize for worrying you. [ He snaps out of his musings by force, offers a quick bow of his head, always polite. ] I feel mostly fine now, though in retrospect, the experience was rather... alarming.
Y-you don't need to apologize! [Izuku rushes to reassure him, waving his hands emphatically.]
I should be the one saying it... since I organized the whole thing in the first place. [His expression grows more subdued.] When did you notice you were feeling like yourself again?
Just this morning, actually. When I woke up, my color had been fully restored, as though it had never been gone at all. I was very surprised.
[ The fact that he could even get surprised was, in and of itself, surprising. The last few days have been mostly an apathetic haze, like he'd been living on autopilot, no drive whatsoever.
In hindsight, it made him feel powerless. ]
Ah, but please, don't blame yourself! You had a valuable idea for the sake of the town, and I signed up for it on my own accord, fully aware of the risks.
Just this morning... [Izuku repeats quietly to himself.] So the color returns naturally over the course of a few days? It doesn't make sense, but it's still a relief.
[Izuku gives him a wobbly smile.] Even so, I'm sorry that this happened to you.
Like said, I can't be sure it did happen naturally-- I recall Guren-san mentioning he would try to find a way to help me restore my color. For now, it's only a hypothesis, but whatever did it, I am glad.
[ At that second part, though, Akechi offers a smile of his own, and a shake of his head. ] Ah, but please, there is no need for that. It may not have been a pleasant experience, by any means, but... I feel like going through this has put me closer to the truth I have been seeking-- the truth about this place, that is. At the very least, that is one good thing to come out of this entire ordeal.
I've been talking to Ichinose-sensei... I don't think he found anything, but I can check with him again. At least this way we'll know what to expect if it happens to anyone else.
You...think so? [Huh. Izuku can't help but feel slightly impressed that Akechi's taking it so well.] What do you think is the truth, then?
[ WELL. It's not so much that he's taking it well, it's more like he's really good at pretending to be in control of hid emotions, when in reality he's fucking pissed off on the inside. At the shadows, and this place, but also at himself.
But, this isn't the sort of impression he would want to leave on anyone, so the mask is firmly stuck into place, and the Ace Detective takes over. ]
I believe that whoever brought us here did so with one clear intention in mind: to have us restore color to this place. And they are willing to do whatever it takes.

[ Including stealing color from them. ]

You mean... you think they're using us as a source for color?
