...Ah. Actually, there's one that's been a bit reluctant to leave his mother's side. The other kittens have all been largely sociable, and play rather boisterously, but this one...

I'm sorry, I don't want to give the wrong impression. They're all healthy, playful kittens of good temperament. It's simply that — I don't know if it's right to say that a kitten is shy, per se, but there is one of them that seems to need a bit more coaxing before he'll come out of his shell. I'd imagine he would need extra care and attention from his new owners, as well.

[ A trouble kitten, huh? Hmm.... ]

I see. To be honest, I'm not sure I would have what it takes to help this kitten out, though I believe Akira might-- that's the person I intend to give the cat to, by the way.

However, if it's a cat that others might find unwanted, I would like to give it a try, if you wouldn't mind.

Oh, I don't think he's the sort of cat to make trouble for his owners. Quite the opposite, I think he's very much the sort that needs to be wanted, lest his owner get discouraged with his slowness to warm up.

If I might confess — I've rather a soft spot for him, myself, because he reminds me a little of someone I know. So I may be editorializing a bit, but — if he's going to a home with owners who will be patient, and kind, and love him very much, then I'm confident he'll flourish there.

That's precisely what I mean. If others might not be so patient with him and can't find it in themselves to wait until he can warm up to them, then I would like to give him a chance.

Just between the two of us, that reminds me of someone, too. That might be why I would like to help him.

Well, then, it seems we've arrived at an understanding. I'll make certain to corral that one for you and Akira — and as this is to be a surprise, how would you like best to take possession of him? I could bring him to you, or you're welcome to pick him up yourself, whichever you prefer.

Could you perhaps hold on to him for a little longer? I believe there are some preparations to get to before we can proceed, correct? Such as procuring a litter box, perhaps a cushion to serve as a bed and food, since I imagine they're too young to fend for themselves in this sort of environment...

Regardless, it shouldn't take me longer than a few days at most, and once I have everything set up, I can go pick him up. Does that sound acceptable?

Certainly, it's no trouble at all to keep him until you're ready. We've kept him this long already, after all.

I've saved the cloth that he and his siblings have slept and played on as they've grown, so a piece of that will be sent with him when you come to collect him, so there'll be something that smells familiar to him in his new environment.

And if you need help with food, at least to begin with, I can send a few eggs from our hens along as well. They've enjoyed scrambled eggs, among other things.

Ah, that's right-- cats do seem to have an attachment to familiarity. Having a piece of clothing with his smell will probably help him acclimate to his new home. I must admit I had no idea cats could even eat eggs-- I was thinking fish and meat would be more appropriate?

At any rate, I would appreciate the eggs. And once again, thank you for all your assistance and continued patience. I will do my best not to disappoint.

Oh, his mother is a horrendously picky eater. She won't even eat fish in and of itself; she insists on having it prepared very particularly for her before she'll even touch it.

[Pearl is such a snooty cat, she only eats food prepared by world-class chefs. Honestly.]

And really, I'm the one who should be thanking you. I certainly wasn't planning for this litter, so being able to find places for the kittens is an incredible relief for me.

A picky eater cat... I admit I'm not particularly skilled in the kitchen, so I hope this kitten won't be very much like his mother with regards to his eating habits.

You'll have to let me know if he turns out to be particular about it. I'll see what I can do to assist, in that event.

As to his name...well, yes and no. I've avoided calling them anything aloud because I didn't want them to become accustomed to a name that their future owners might later want to change, but on the other hand...I've been caring for them for weeks, it's only natural to come up with some sort of way of telling them apart.

So yes, affectionately the four cats have been Rowdy, Meringue, Sterling, and Prince. You're inheriting Prince.

Oh, but those are some fairly interesting choices! I rather like "Prince" myself, but since the kitten is meant for someone else, it's possible he will have a different name. I will try to vouch for it if given the chance, though!

Of course. I'll make sure to keep you updated on his development, regardless. I imagine you must have reservations about handing him over to near strangers after having cared for him for so long, so hopefully that will ease your troubles somewhat.

I think Prompto-san would make much better use of a camera than I ever could, but I can certainly send you text updates. And while I do try to use it sparingly, I suppose I can always take the occasional picture with my phone.
